You are comparing a TVC (gain or no gain?) with the LFD's volume pot, and the result is certainly close as you said. But a real active gain stage preamp might be a different story, particularly for really inefficient loudspeakers. For efficient ones, the result would be closer.doctorjohnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11301768655128512295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3395121002488101245.post-91735055238649746442019-02-07T09:10:08.895-05:002019-02-07T09:10:08.895-05:00Would there be any sonic degradation in using the ...Would there be any sonic degradation in using the LFD Zero 3 as a power amplifier (by turning the maximum volume to maximum)? Wouldn't the signal still pass through the volume pot and somehow compromise the integrated's sound? I tried using my Zero 3 in the same way by connecting it to a Bent Audio TAP TVC and, in addition to having remote capability, I found the transparency arguably Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3395121002488101245.post-84739679864561195632016-06-15T07:38:54.342-04:002016-06-15T07:38:54.342-04:00Indeed, for both looks and sound I'd go for ol...Indeed, for both looks and sound I'd go for older stuff. I too prefer the look of the Zero MkIII with its Corian faceplate. The new LFD amps are built with thicker casework but look worse IMO. Just as I prefer the older Creeks, Regas, Naims, etc...the older British integrateds had a certain charm & unique appeal about their Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3395121002488101245.post-37842484920068159902016-06-13T20:57:51.362-04:002016-06-13T20:57:51.362-04:00I did sell it, but not for the reasons you mention...I did sell it, but not for the reasons you mentioned. You see, I just have too much stuff that sometimes I actually sell off whatever is easily unloaded. Also, my circumstances have changed a great deal - I no longer live in the space where this article was written. The new place is much smaller and I use smaller integrated amps like the NAD 3020A.doctorjohnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11301768655128512295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3395121002488101245.post-25385538105008157722016-06-12T23:18:34.155-04:002016-06-12T23:18:34.155-04:00I'm surprised I don't see the LFD amplifie...I'm surprised I don't see the LFD amplifier listed in any of your systems anymore considering you wrote it was the "best integrated you ever had"? Did you sell it off? If so, may I ask why? Was it performance or reliability related? I have read some owners complain about the volume pot/gain due to it going from soft to loud too rapidly without enough gradations in between...do Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
